The International Ballet Festival of Havana is one of the most significant cultural and dance events in both Cuba and the world. Founded in 1960, this 6-day biennial event will feature 20 + classical and contemporary performances with the best dancers, choreographers, and companies from around the globe. As a group, we will attend 5 performances with privileged access to some of the best seats in the house, meet with dancers, and visit the prestigious Cuban National Ballet School.

In addition, Dance Cuba offers the same immersive cultural experience that is the hallmark of all our adventures. The trip requires extensive time exploring on foot rather than sight-seeing by bus. Cuba travel expert and award-winning photographer Scott Fishman will lead you away from the over-crowded tourist areas and into the nearby streets and surrounding neighborhoods of Havana where the locals carry-on with their daily lives. You will gain privileged access to people and places virtually unseen by tourists and therefore experience authentic Cuba.

Dance Cuba has been designed to appeal to both photographers and non-photographers alike.

GENERAL INFO

TRAVEL

Plan to arrive at José Martí International Airport (HAV) in Havana before 5:30pm on Friday (Day 0). A member of the Capturing Cuba team will greet you at the airport and transfer you to our accommodations. Your adventure will end in Havana on Wednesday (Day 5). Airlines currently offering service between the U.S. and Havana are: Southwest, JetBlue, American, Delta, and United. A group transfer to José Martí International Airport (HAV will be provided in the morning only. As is the case with any international trip, we suggest that you consider the purchase of travel insurance and/or trip cancellation insurance.

ACCOMMODATIONS

All accommodations are in licensed casa particulares (bed and breakfasts) with air-conditioned bedrooms, and in-suite private bathrooms with hot water showers. Accommodations are based upon a per person double occupancy rate. If you are traveling alone we will make our best effort to match you with a suitable roommate. If we are unable to do so for any reason, or if you prefer the privacy of your own room, a minimum single occupancy supplement of $195 will be applied to the cost of your trip. Single occupancy is based upon room availability and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

You will encounter poorly maintained roads and steep staircases on this adventure. All participants are expected to be in reasonably good health, steady on their feet, and able to walk several hours daily without slowing down the group.

CULTURAL ADJUSTMENT

The Cuban pace is slow and very few people speak English. You will find that poverty is abundant, goods are extremely limited, and services are sporadic. Life in Cuba can be unpredictable and unforeseen circumstances may arise. Therefore, last-minute changes to the itinerary may be unavoidable and are to be expected. Patience and flexibility are necessary to enjoy your Cuban experience.

PERSONAL SAFETY

Cuba is one of the safest countries in the world for tourists to visit. It has the lowest crime rate in the Western Hemisphere and violent crime is virtually non-existent. The majority of crime is classified as non-confrontational (pick-pockets, scams, and petty theft). During the 38th Annual International Tourism Fair (FITUR) held in Madrid during January 2018, Cuba was bestowed the Excellence Award and received the honour of being declared "Safest Country" for travel.

Cuban-Americans who departed Cuba before January 1, 1971 may travel to Cuba on their U.S. passport but must apply for an HE-11 visa from the Cuban Embassy.
