Frozen in time for 59 years, Cuba is a small but resilient multi-ethnic country with a storied past. It's complex history is reflected in a vibrant blend of gracious people, stunning architecture, classic automobiles, and cultural arts. Cuba remains an unspoiled treasure but the winds of change are moving swiftly across this tropical island.

Our Classic Cuba adventure is an immersive cultural experience that requires extensive time exploring on foot rather than sight-seeing by bus. Cuba travel expert and award-winning photographer Scott Fishman has been to Cuba 18 times since March 2015. He will lead you away from the over-crowded tourist areas and into the nearby streets, surrounding neighborhoods, and rural farmlands where the locals carry-on with their daily lives. You will gain privileged access to people and places virtually unseen by tourists and therefore experience authentic Cuba.

*Classic Cuba has been designed to appeal to both photographers and non-photographers alike.

Plan to arrive at José Martí International Airport (HAV) in Havana before 5:30pm on Friday (Day 0). A member of the Capturing Cuba team will greet you at the airport and transfer you to our accommodations. Your adventure will end in Trinidad on Monday (Day 10). Airlines currently offering service between the U.S. and Havana are: Southwest, JetBlue, American, Delta, and United. Return flights should be scheduled to depart from Abel Santamaría Airport (SNU) in Santa Clara on JetBlue or American Airlines. The group transfer to Santa Clara will be provided in the morning only. As is the case with any international trip, we suggest that you consider the purchase of travel insurance and/or trip cancellation insurance.

NOTE: Participants may elect to depart on Sunday (Day 9) if necessary.

All accommodations are in licensed casa particulares (bed and breakfasts) with air-conditioned bedrooms, and in-suite private bathrooms with hot water showers. Accommodations are based upon a per person double occupancy rate. If you are traveling alone we will make our best effort to match you with a suitable roommate. If we are unable to do so for any reason, or if you prefer the privacy of your own room, a minimum single occupancy supplement of $295 will be applied to the cost of your trip. Single occupancy is based upon room availability and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

You will encounter poorly maintained roads, steep staircases, dirt trails, cobblestone streets, and slight elevation changes on this adventure. All participants are expected to be in reasonably good health, steady on their feet, and able to walk several hours daily without slowing down the group.

The Cuban pace is slow and very few people speak English. You will find that poverty is abundant, goods are extremely limited, and services are sporadic. Life in Cuba can be unpredictable and unforeseen circumstances may arise. Therefore, last-minute changes to the itinerary may be unavoidable and are to be expected. Patience and flexibility are necessary to enjoy your Cuban experience.

Cuba is one of the safest countries in the world for tourists to visit. It has the lowest crime rate in the Western Hemisphere and violent crime is virtually non-existent. The majority of crime is classified as non-confrontational (pick-pockets, scams, and petty theft). During the 38th Annual International Tourism Fair (FITUR) held in Madrid during January 2018, Cuba was bestowed the Excellence Award and received the honour of being declared "Safest Country" for travel.

General License

All Cuba travel adventures offered by Capturing Cuba, LLC are operated under a General License authorized by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). This license permits U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba with an organization that sponsors exchanges to promote people-to-people contact. Travelers are required to maintain a full-time schedule of activities intended to support civil society in Cuba, promote the Cuban people’s independence from Cuban authorities, and result in meaningful interaction with individuals in Cuba. Travelers should maintain all records from their travels for a period of 5 years.

All participants are required to carry a valid U.S. issued passport. The passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months after the trip departure date. Foreign passports are allowed only in conjunction with a valid U.S. Resident Alien Card (Green Card).

Cuban Visa

All participants are required to carry a Cuban Tourist Card (Visa) which will be provided by Capturing Cuba. The cost of the Tourist Card is included in the price of your adventure. Please note that additional processing and shipping fees may apply. Procedures and costs are subject to change prior to or after registration.

The Cuban government requires U.S.-Cuban dual citizens who departed Cuba on or after January 1, 1971 to enter and depart Cuba using a Cuban passport. Using a Cuban passport for this purpose does not jeopardize one’s U.S. citizenship. However, such persons must use their U.S. passports to enter and depart the United States. Cuban-Americans who departed Cuba before January 1, 1971 may travel to Cuba on their U.S. passport but must apply for an HE-11 visa from the Cuban Embassy.
